Sri Lanka abolishes compulsory insurance for tourists

Tourists planning a holiday in Sri Lanka no longer need to purchase local COVID-19 insurance.

“The mandatory requirement for foreign passport holders to have insurance with coronavirus coverage has been lifted,” according to a June 17 official document from the local Ministry of Health. The changes take effect immediately.

Insurance was a prerequisite for entering Sri Lanka and cost $12. Local Covid Insurance covers up to $50 for testing, quarantine, treatment, transfers, and more.
