Spanish airports bounce back to 2019 levels

24.3 million passengers passed through the AENA network airports in Spain in June – this is 90 percent of the pre-pandemic June 2022 volumes

Aena network airports closed in June 2022 with 24,320,204 passengers, meaning 90 percent of the traffic registered in June 2019 has already been restored.

There were 211,768 aircraft in service, up 93.8 percent from 2019.

Of the total travelers registered in June, 24,258,474 were commercial passengers, of which 16,491,696 were international travelers, down 14.4% from 2019. Meanwhile, 7,766,778 passengers used domestic flights, down 2.2% from before the pandemic.

Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the sixth month of the year – 4,538,501 people, which is 18.5% less than in June 2019.

It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport with 4,065,862 passengers (-20.4% compared to 2019).

Next are the air harbors:

  • Palma de Mallorca with 3,715,622 passengers (-3.6%);
  • Malaga – Costa del Sol with 1,907,290 passengers (-7.2%);
  • Alicante – 1,345,092 passengers (-12.6%);
  • Ibiza – 1,152,734 (-2.3%);
  • Gran Canaria – 926,433 (-5.4%);
  • Tenerife – 804,767 (-1.9%);
  • Valencia — 800,102 (+2.6%);
  • Seville – 619,449 (-7.1%);
  • Lanzarote — 606,596 (+0.4%);
  • Menorca — 558,714 (+6.5%);
  • Bilbao – 534,574 passengers, down 8.5% compared to the same month in 2019.

The airport with the highest number of flights in June was Madrid Airport with 30,639 (-19.3% compared to 2019). It is followed by Barcelona with 26,648 flights and Palma de Mallorca with 26,391.
