A large financial fine, or more precisely about 6,300 hryvnias, will be paid by tourists for a very simple mistake in the resorts of Spain this summer. It is a fine for driving a car in inappropriate shoes, according to Spanish authorities.
Despite the hot weather, tourists are not allowed to drive their own or rented car in flip-flops. In addition, high-heeled shoes and barefoot shoes are prohibited throughout Spain. The explanation is simple – safety. A foot in uncomfortable shoes can slip off the pedal.
However, this is not the only law that tourists violate while vacationing in the Pyrenees. Yes, several tourist hotspots, including Barcelona and the Canary Islands, ban smoking on the beach. Violation was punishable by a fine of up to 63,000 hryvnias in local currency.
Here are a few more bans in the country. For example, in Barcelona, tourists can wear beachwear only on the beach, and vacationers who walk in the city center without clothes acceptable to the city may face a fine of up to 9,000 hryvnia. The same law applies in Mallorca: those who violate it will have to pay up to 18,000 hryvnias.
Spanish authorities have developed a penalty system for the so-called “balconies” – tourists who like to jump from the hotel balcony to the pool. The law was passed after repeated unsuccessful attempts by drunken tourists to jump right into the pool. Their attempts often ended in injury and death. Violators will be fined between UAH 23,000 and UAH 50,000 in hotels located in the Balearic Islands, which include the famous resorts of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca.
