Saudi Arabian carrier Saudia has become one of the first airlines to use Apple’s Share Item Location feature, enabling passengers to monitor the location of their luggage through the Find My network.
According to Travolution, the tracking begins when baggage is declared lost or delayed and ends once it is recovered. Users can deactivate the feature at any time.
Enhancing the Passenger Experience
Although less than 1% of checked baggage is lost globally, 36.1 million bags were reported lost, delayed, or damaged in 2023, according to SITA. This has made digital baggage tracking a key focus for the aviation industry.
Abdulgader Attiah, Chief Data and Technology Officer at Saudia Group, noted that the initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance customer experience through innovation. With plans to expand to more than 100 destinations by 2025, Saudia aims to use technology to streamline logistics and boost reliability.
A Global Tech Trend
Saudia joins a growing list of airlines integrating Apple’s ecosystem, including Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Air Canada, Iberia, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines.
By leveraging Apple’s network of over one billion connected devices, the system offers secure, end-to-end encryption, ensuring passengers’ privacy and seamless tracking across the globe.
