Saudi Arabia plans to turn Sindal Island into a resort by 2024

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al Saud announced on Monday plans for a resort on the island of Sinhala by 2024 as part of the Neom Innovation City project. This was reported by the Al Arabiya TV channel.

Italian superyacht and architecture studio Luca Dini Design and Architecture has designed a luxury island resort in the Red Sea as part of the Neom project in Saudi Arabia.

The island resort of Sinhala, which will welcome its first guests in early 2024, will be the first of 10 regions completed as part of the Neom mega-development in northeast Saudi Arabia.

The luxurious island of Sindalah is being developed as part of Neom.

Dubbed “the future of luxury travel” by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, the 840,000-square-meter island will be developed into a resort focused on the yachting community.

The resort, designed by Luca Dini Design and Architecture, which is primarily known for designing superyachts, will be built around an 86-berth marina and yacht club.

It will contain a marina and numerous villas.

“Sinhala will be the first NEOM luxury island and yacht club in the Red Sea, opening a scenic gateway to the Red Sea, which will be the most exciting and attractive tourist destination in the region,” Bin Salman said.

“It will be a place where travelers can see the true beauty of Neom and Saudi Arabia, above and below the water, making Sinhala the future of luxury travel.”

The rest of the island will be covered by several luxury hotels, with a total of over 400 rooms and over 300 serviced apartments and villas.

The island will also feature two nine-hole golf courses, 38 restaurants, and a beach club.

The luxury island resort of Sindalah will be one of 10 regions developed as part of Neom’s master plan, which will include The Line’s metropolitan area. Unveiled earlier this year, The Line is being designed by American studio Morphosis as a 170-kilometer mirrored skyscraper for nine million people.

The proposed city was widely criticized by experts who told Dezeen that the project’s claims of sustainability and livability were “naïve”.

It will have two golf courses.

Earlier this year, the human rights organization ALQST reported that three members of the Khuwaitat tribe who were believed to have criticized Neom-related displacements were sentenced to death.

According to ALQST, they were sentenced by the Saudi Arabian Specialized Criminal Court after being “forcibly evicted and relocated to make way for the Neom megaproject”.

Along with The Line and Sindalah, the Neom project will include a ski resort designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, UNStudio, Aedas, LAVA, and Bureau Proberts.
