The most popular city among tourists will deal a 200-percent blow to them – that’s how much it is supposed to increase the tax on tourist accommodation, which is used in Paris. The French press reports that this is reflected in the 2024 budget proposal.
Note that the residence tax in Paris is applied in eight different districts of the French capital at different rates. In general, it ranges from 0.25 to 5 euros depending on the district and the class of the accommodation facility – guests of “luxury” hotels pay the most. If the new tax is accepted, they will have to pay an additional 15 euros tax for each night (!!!).
Naturally, hotels were not happy with this event with such a terrible tax. Representatives of the Association of Hoteliers and the National Group of Hotel Chains of Paris said that such an approach would have an extremely negative impact on the tourist attraction of the region, especially on the eve of the 2024 Olympic Games. In turn, Tourism Minister Olivia Gregoire said that the new tax rate will be determined by each municipality independently.
