Experts have compiled the top 10 destinations that tourists are booking for travel in the first quarter of 2022.
Major cities such as Las Vegas, New York, Chicago and London remained popular with travelers and ranked among the top 10 most booked destinations in the world in the first quarter along with beach destinations such as Cancun, Punta Cana, Honolulu and Miami.
Las Vegas topped the NORAM (economic region comprising Canada, the United States and Mexico) list, overtaking New York, which held the top spot in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. For the third straight quarter, New York has been ranked among the top 10 most booked destinations across all regions. The top three regions were Tokyo (APAC: Asia Pacific and Japan), London (EMEA: Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Mexico City (LATAM: Latin America).
As the researchers at Expedia Group Media Solutions note in their report, this year promises to be a period of strong growth.
“We’re optimistic about what’s to come in 2022. Growth in global searches and growing consumer interest in sustainable travel are just some of the positive trends we’ve seen in the first quarter,” said Jennifer Andre. , the company’s global vice president of media solutions.
Interest in travel has become more frequent as covid restrictions are loosened. This is evidenced by the growth in the number of global requests. In the first quarter, global search volume climbed 25 percent quarter-on-quarter, driven by double-digit growth in North America (NORAM) by 30 percent and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) by 25 percent.
Also, global search volumes grew by 75 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021. All regions saw year-over-year growth, with EMEA up 165 percent and NORAM up 70 percent. Growth was 50 percent in Latin America and 30 percent in Asia Pacific (APAC).
