In Thailand, the famous Maya Bay beach on the Phi Phi Islands will be closed from August to September 2022. This was stated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of Thailand.
The decision, as before, was made to rehabilitate the local ecosystem naturally. Recall that in 2018, the island of Phi Phi Le with Maya Bay beach was closed for reclamation, as a result, it was possible to restore the marine ecology, improve the coral reef, and attract reef sharks.
On January 1, 2022, Phi Phi Le opened for tourists under the strict control of the authorities: it was required to book a visit, the duration of which did not exceed one hour. Swimming is strictly prohibited.
The bay with crystal clear water and picturesque cliffs became widely known thanks to the 2000 film “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio.
