Japan will increase the limit of tourists allowed into the country

Japan intends to double the limit of people allowed into the country, as well as to remove the rule on the need to show a certificate with a negative test result for COVID-19 to cross the border, reports Executivetraveller.com.

Japan still has strict entry requirements. They will gradually be phased out.

According to local broadcaster FNN, citing unnamed civil servants, the daily tourist limit will be increased from 20,000 to 50,000 people as early as next month.

And according to the Nikkei newspaper, the authorities are also considering the possibility of gradually relaxing the requirements for testing.

Note that travelers are currently required to provide a negative PCR test result within 72 hours of departure to Japan.

According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, due to the fact that the country has certain rules, including the mandatory wearing of masks, temperature checks, restrictions on freedom of movement, as well as test requirements for entry, tourists are not keen to visit the country. If in 2019 it was visited by 32 million people, then in 2021 – only 250 thousand. The small influx of foreigners admitted to Japan last year spent 120 billion yen. They spent 4.8 trillion yen in 2019, forty times more, according to the Japan Tourism Agency.
