It’s cheaper than paying a mortgage: How pensioners moved to a cruise ship

You have been working all your life, but when you are retired, do you dream of relaxing in a country house? Think about an endless cruise aboard an ocean liner. Moreover, it costs less than life on the shore, reports Aussiedlerbote.de.

Home spending more than cruises

Richard and Angelina Burke retired and decided they could afford to live off their savings. But property costs turned out to be higher than they expected. Retirees continued to pay mortgages, pay for Internet and electricity, transfer taxes, and take out insurance. And you also need to buy food, and gasoline for the car and make other daily purchases. All this required at least 3.5 thousand dollars a month.

Angelina, who previously worked as an accountant, did the calculations and came to an unexpected conclusion. As it turned out, living on a cruise ship is more profitable for them than in their own house.

According to the couple, a cruise ship is good because you pay a certain amount and get an all-inclusive service. That is, at tourists’ disposal – a comfortable room, good food, and entertainment on board. And as a bonus – the opportunity to visit different countries and places where it was not possible to go earlier because of work.

Husband and wife have already visited Miami, the Bahamas, the Mexican Riviera, the Netherlands, and Central America. But now they took a short pause and remained on land. The reason for this was the imminent birth of the fourth grandson.

After that, the cruises will continue. The plans of the spouse’s Burke – swimming, which will take about 9 months with short breaks between flights. However, during these breaks, they do not spend money. Richard and Angelina are visiting friends or renting rooms using the credits they have earned from their cruises.

What about “earthly” affairs and property

Seafarers have almost nothing to do with the land. The house and car remain in their ownership, but the pensioners plan to get rid of this “anchor” shortly. Their children live in their cottages and can take care of themselves.

By the way, this decision is not unusual. Many retirees from the US and Europe go on cruises that can last for months. This phenomenon is becoming so popular that some cruise operators are considering introducing special long cruises for such customers.
