In the hotels of the most popular resorts in Spain – the Balearic Islands, tourists will no longer be able to wash their hair in the usual way and even drink tea in the room. The reason is the struggle of hotels for greater environmental friendliness, in particular, the ban on single-use plastic.
As reported by Spanish Tourism News, a special law has come into effect in Spain that prohibits the use of various types of single-use plastic. Thus, in hotels, almost all disposable amenities that tourists are used to will disappear. These are not only shampoos and shower gels but also disposable toothbrushes, shower caps, razors, combs, etc. According to environmental protection regulations, the use of all these disposable materials in hotels is excluded.
Moreover, other “useful little things” will disappear from the rooms. First of all, the ban will affect plastic water bottles, which were traditionally offered to tourists at summer resorts. Single-use drinks, i.e. tea and coffee bags in the room, will also be banned. The restriction also applies to office supplies such as pens and notebooks, and hotels will also have to replace their promotional flyers with electronic versions.
At the same time, it is not yet clear how the usual comfort of tourists will be ensured under such conditions. Some experts even claim that tourists will have to bring their shampoo or buy it from private distributors.
