The authorities of the Thai province of Trat attended to the fate of a tree growing on the island of Koh Kai Hua Rho off the east coast of Thailand.
Over the past few months, the xylocampus, which occupies the entire island several meters wide, has become popular with visitors due to its resemblance to a tree from a beloved Thai comic book.
Because tourists come here to take pictures in groups, the plant, which can withstand only five visitors at a time, began to die.
An inspection carried out on Tuesday, June 14, showed that due to selfie lovers who climb the tree, many of its branches have already been broken off, and the massive root with which the tree was strengthened in the rock has been fairly trampled and crushed.
The tree looks much more bent than a few years ago when it had not yet gained popularity on social networks.
Local authorities are developing measures that will prevent the plant from dying at the hands and feet of tourists, in particular, limiting the number of visitors and banning visitors from visiting the island during certain seasons.
In addition, the Trat branch of the Tourism Agency of Thailand published a social media post condemning tree selfie lovers and calling for the protection of the plant.
