The Department for Equality has today launched a summer campaign to encourage women to reject stereotypes and so-called “aesthetic violence”, the social pressure on some women to conform to ideals of beauty.
The poster released for the campaign features women of all ages, skin colors, and weights in swimwear on the beach. Text on the poster: “Summer belongs to us too.”
Equality Minister Irene Montero said on Twitter: “Enjoy your summer how you like, where you like, and with whom you like.”
Spain’s Socialist-dominated government, which came to power four years ago, has turned the issue of women’s rights into a political slogan. In the government, 14 women and eight men hold ministerial posts.
