Large fines for beach views outside the beaches and especially in the city center have been introduced in Italy. In the famous city of Sorrento, “indecent behavior” is prohibited, and for trying to walk around the city without a shirt or in a swimsuit, tourists risk getting a big fine – up to 500 euros.
According to ANSA, the mayor of Sorrento, Massimo Coppola, signed the relevant resolution. He justified the ban by the need to curb “abuse and behavior that is perceived by all people as contrary to decency and morality.”
“Continuing such a situation introduces an element of discomfort and annoys both the permanent population of the city and other tourists and may cause a negative assessment of the quality of life in our municipality with subsequent consequences for the image and tourist offer,” the mayor said.
He added that “protecting and improving the orderliness of public spaces is a strategic and priority task of the municipal administration,” and this goal cannot be achieved without actions “to prevent the most common phenomena of indecent behavior that cause a deterioration in the quality of life of citizens.”
Interestingly, the reported fines vary widely – from 20 to 500 euros. Obviously, gradations depend on the degree of obscenity of the costume – as well as the number of violations.
