Fifteen passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to West Bengal have been hit by severe turbulence. The passengers panicked. The emergency, dated last night, was caught on video by an eyewitness who later provided shocking footage of India Today. The filmed video is proof of why passengers should always fasten their seatbelts when flying, even if the seat belt sign is off.
The details of the incident are as follows: the Boeing B737 aircraft became very turbulent during landing, the pilot, following the instructions, turned on the signal about the need to fasten seat belts. However, not everyone did it. In the video recorded by the passenger after the turbulence, you can see and hear the passenger explaining that some seat belts “broke on impact”, the cabin was flooded with things that fell from the top shelves, tables with seat backs scattered on the floor, and crew members tried to calm down frightened passengers and help those who fell into hand luggage.
A tourist eyewitness told the newspaper his feelings: It seemed that the plane was leaning in one direction or the other. Some people fell from their seats. The luggage fell out of the top boxes and hit their heads. ”
Fortunately, the plane managed to land safely, and eleven victims were hospitalized. Among them was one passenger who suffered a serious head injury. “SpiceJet regrets this unfortunate incident and provides all possible medical care to the victims,” the statement said.
The tourist, who was a passenger on the flight, described his trip as a “nightmare”. He wrote on social media: “Fortunately, most people behaved well in a crisis situation and were lucky to survive.”
Earlier, one of the stewardesses said that injuries related to turbulence are the most likely cause of serious injuries during the flight. According to Amanda Pleva, a flight attendant with 14 years of experience, unrestrained passengers put themselves in danger if they get into turbulence.
“Most passengers who are afraid that a plane may crash tend to lose sight of a much more realistic scenario that can be avoided – injuries related to turbulence … It’s really boring to hear, and still boring for us to repeat several times,” But of all the rules we apply on the plane, this is the one that should be taken most seriously. We are preparing for many potential emergency scenarios, but turbulence is common and it doesn’t take long to get injured.
I understand when people run down the aisles to the toilets, when they just can’t wait any longer, although we don’t recommend it. Or during the turbulence, one or two passengers were reluctant to call a flight attendant to ask for water. There is no excuse for such behavior, and seat belts are not so uncomfortable that they can not be fastened.
