In Egypt, tourists will be able to return money for purchases

Another pleasant surprise awaits tourists in the winter season in Egypt — perhaps as early as November, the Tax-Free system will start operating in the country, allowing tourists to return part of their money for purchases. At the same time, the “price limit” will be quite moderate.

At the moment, the Cabinet of Ministers of Egypt has approved the creation of the national company Global Blue Egypt. It is expected that the return of VAT will take place according to the international standard scheme: before departure, tourists will have to go to special kiosks in airports.

It is assumed that the authorities will start from Sharm el-Sheikh airport, and shortly. According to the available information, the pilot project can start working as early as November 2022.

At the same time, tourists will be able to return the tax for purchases exceeding the value of 1,500 Egyptian pounds. That is, in hryvnia equivalent, it is approximately 2,850 hryvnias. We should add that, unlike Europe, Egypt did not introduce any bans on the export of “luxury items” by tourists.
