The question of creating a low-cost airline in Egypt has been resolved: it will go to the most popular tourist destinations, at least domestic ones. The airline promises to maintain ticket prices no higher than 1.8 thousand Egyptian pounds – or about 3.5 thousand hryvnias.
According to Muhammad Manar, the head of the Ministry of Aviation, the subsidiary carrier associated with EgyptAir will develop as a budget airline. “We are in the process of contracting for several aircraft, and these aircraft are different from normal aircraft – they are only economy class, the seats are tight, and the service is also different.”
At the same time, he emphasized that the airline, which was named Air Sphinx, will operate with all tourist destinations from the Sphinx airport. “The creation of the new organization goes hand in hand with the Ministry of Tourism,” he added.
Due to more economical components, the Minister of Aviation also added, that prices will differ for the better. “Usually prices for domestic flights reached 4,600 pounds. We were able to reduce the prices – as a result, tickets to Luxor from Hurghada will cost between 1,500-1,800 pounds.” Accordingly, in hryvnias the price of an ordinary ticket is about 2,500-3,500 hryvnias, at a low-cost carrier it is planned from 4,500 to 6,000. The prices for tickets Cairo – Hurghada will also not exceed 1,500-1,600 pounds
All other features of the low-cost carrier, such as additional baggage fees and other services, are also expected, but prices have not yet been discussed. Foreign flights are also planned.
