Hunters armed with crossbows will protect tourists in the Spanish resort of Benidorm – such news was published by Spanish media. The reason – is in many breed wild boars, which terrorize tourists. After the singer Shakira announced their attack on social networks, complaints are pouring in one after another, and the authorities are forced to look for ways to resist the animals.
According to local authorities, the number of wild boars has increased, and during the pandemic, the animals “got used” to places that are often visited by tourists – in parks and even on golf courses.
With the return of tourists, the clash became inevitable – one of them survived the pop star Shakira – and it all happened in Barcelona last year. On the social network Instagram, the singer posted a video where she complained that she was “attacked” by two wild boars in the park and destroyed her bag’s contents, including her mobile phone. The singer and her nine-year-old son were not injured, but the authorities of Spanish resorts are forced to look for measures to combat – tourists who visit the same Benidorm, massively complain about the influx of wild boars.
They try to trap animals, but this measure was considered not very effective. Hunting of animals with firearms in the resort provinces is also prohibited. As a result, officials found an original solution: in an attempt to stop farmers from eating farmers’ crops, causing traffic accidents, damaging golf courses, and even attacking tourists, they called on the sport hunting federation, armed with bows and crossbows.
At the resort council meeting, Denia’s environmental adviser Maite Perez Conehero confirmed that officials were negotiating with the Alicante Hunting Federation and studying a coordinated operation involving hunters in different parts of the municipality. Proposals will be prepared in two weeks.
