On Monday evening, an alarm sounded for tourists vacationing in Turkey. Hellish heat and drought led to the fact that forest fires started in the resorts of Antalya. Tourists fear that the burning inferno of Greece could “move” to Turkey at any moment, and have even begun to fear evacuations. So far, local officials in the Turkish press assure that tourist facilities have not been affected, but fires have been recorded in resort areas.
The first natural disaster was recorded on a track well known to our tourists.
Around 9:00 p.m., a fire broke out in the forest on the side of the Kemer-Antalya highway in Dehirmenderi district. The drought and strong winds caused the flames to spread in an instant. Reinforced fire brigades from Antalya and Kumluj were sent to extinguish the fire. Surrounding communities that are at risk of fire were also evacuated as a precaution. At the same time, according to the Turkish press, six people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. 10 residential buildings and a local hospital were also evacuated.
Antalya Governor Ersin Yaziji added that as of 05:30 in the morning, they started fighting the fire from the air, using 6 helicopters and 4 airplanes. At the same time, according to some reports, the fire was extinguished. In a separate number, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Munir Karaloglu said that the fire does not threaten tourist facilities.
However, because there is hot weather without rain in the resorts of Turkey, the fears of tourists continue to “develop” – and they are quite justified.
We will remind you that the “fiery hell” has already broken out in Turkey – in the summer of 2021. The main blow fell on the resort of Marmaris – where, as now in Greece, fires came close to hotels and tourists had to be evacuated. There were predictions that the resort would not recover from the effects for several years.
