Ganges bridge collapses for second time in India

According to the Times of India, the unfinished four-lane road bridge Aguvani-Sultanganj collapsed in India. This is the second bridge collapse in the last two years.

The bridge over the Ganges River is located in Bhagalpur in the state of Bihar. First, one of the fragments of the roadbed in its center collapsed, then the pillars slanted and the bridge fell into the river.

In 2022, part of this bridge was torn down by a storm. The structure was restored, but probably not of sufficient quality, and it collapsed again. Fortunately, no one was hurt as a result.

The construction of the 3.1 km long bridge began in 2014 and was expected to be completed in 2019. Since then, this deadline has been extended four times. Nearly $208 million has already been spent on the construction of the bridge.
