Aviation sanctions, backed by European insurers, have led to the cancellation of flights to Russia by Egypt’s largest carrier. The national airline Egypt Air has canceled all flights to Moscow until March 10.
“EgyptAir’s flights to Moscow have been suspended until about March 10. The decision was made due to the need to renegotiate insurance contracts, as well as the refusal of some European parties to insure flights to Moscow and back against the background of events in Ukraine, “the agency quoted the carrier as saying.
Representatives of Egypt Air also stressed that “every effort is being made to resolve the problem and resume flights as soon as possible.” It should be noted that for tourists – as well as for the airline itself – this decision will be a serious disadvantage: in the conditions when Russian airlines “cut” flight programs to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh due to the risk of recall, an alternative to return to Russia Cairo on the Egyptian “wings” could be a very popular convenient option.
Examples of such demand are – for example, the national carrier of a country that did not impose sanctions on Russia and did not close the sky – Air Serbia has already received a full load at the expense of returning tourists – and it was so profitable that one of its shareholders said he could support the carrier – UAE Etihad.

The Turks do not want to miss out either – although the arrest of the Victory plane in Istanbul was one of the first precedents of “air sanctions”, Turkish Airlines – Turkey’s flagship carrier – has already increased capacity on flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Thus, on March 6, the frequency of flights on the route Istanbul – St. Petersburg will increase from two to three per day.
