In the upcoming summer season, the Cypriot authorities plan to rely on British tourists, replacing them with vacationers from Russia and Ukraine. This was reported to journalists by the chairman of the State Committee for Tourism of the country Savvas Perdios.
On the eve of the official arrived in London for negotiations with tour operators. During the meeting, he explained that this year, due to the current situation, the republic does not expect the arrival of citizens of the Russian Federation and Ukraine at all. Meanwhile, in past high seasons, it was they who accounted for a fifth of the total tourist flow to the country. We are talking about about 800 thousand tourists.
According to Savvas Perdios, travelers from the United Kingdom can fill the niche of Russians and Ukrainians. The demand for trips to Cyprus from the British last year exceeded the expectations of both tour operators and host companies. In the 2022 season, the republic intends to receive about a million tourists from the UK.
It should be noted that the Minister of Tourism of Egypt also visited London earlier. He also announced his desire to increase the share of the tourist flow from Foggy Albion in order to replace the Russians and Ukrainians. Earlier, the Foreign Office lifted the official recommendation for British citizens not to visit the South Sinai region “unnecessarily”.
