According to Eurostat, Bulgaria recorded a significant year-on-year increase of ~ +23 % in package holiday prices in August 2025, positioning it second in the EU behind Estonia (+39.5 %) and ahead of Denmark (+12 %), reports Novinite.
Breaking it down: domestic package holidays in Bulgaria rose by ~ +25.2 %, while international holiday packages increased by ~ +20.2 %.
In comparison, the average annual increase across the EU for package holidays was just ~ +2.5 %.
This indicates growing cost pressures even in destinations typically seen as “budget” friendly. Contributing factors likely include higher accommodation and energy costs, increased logistics expenses, limited supply in popular resort areas, and rising aviation/tour-transfer costs.
For travelers: it implies higher budgets, reconsideration of value-for-money, and maybe shifting to off-peak seasons or emerging destinations. For the tourism industry: the challenge is clear — maintain value, diversify offerings and compete effectively in a higher-cost environment.
