A new futuristic attraction will appear in the UK in August, reports Seemonster.co.uk.
An art installation called See Monster will be converted from a decommissioned oil rig. It will consist of four publicly-accessible levels: a kinetic installation of 6,000 animated parts that form shimmering monster scales, a 10-meter waterfall, an onboard oasis of herbs, plants, and trees chosen to thrive in the seaside microclimate, as well as a seated amphitheater and a broadcasting studio. At night, the object will be highlighted.
See Monster will be one of the largest public art installations in the UK, designed to inspire global discussion about repurposing large industrial structures into design solutions for a sustainable future.
The rig spent 30 years in the North Sea and 12 months in a Dutch shipyard. A few days ago, she was brought from the Netherlands on a barge the size of a football field to Weston-super-Mare. Residents and guests of the seaside town will be able to watch the installation from August to October, after which it will be dismantled and sent for recycling.
