Russia has imposed a travel ban on Egypt following the crash of a Russian passenger plane in Sinai in late October 2015, killing all its passengers.
In January 2018, the Russian government gave permission to resume regular flights to Cairo International Airport after a two-year stop, while Russian flights from Moscow actually returned to Cairo in April.
Egypt and Russia agreed in April 2021 to resume all flights between the two countries, but especially to the Red Sea cities of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh.
According to a statement from the Egyptian president on Friday, the resumption of flights was agreed during a telephone conversation between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
In 2015, Egypt received about 3 million Russian tourists, but only 100,000 in 2017 after the crisis caused by the plane crash of a Russian plane.
