A scandal broke out in Egypt, which banned teenagers from approaching the Great Pyramids

Unattended teenagers under the age of 10 will be barred from entering the Pyramids of Giza museum complex, at least every Friday, Saturday, and public holiday. This official statement was made by the Secretary-General of the High Council of Antiquities Mostafa al-Waziri. We are talking primarily about local teenagers – young tourists who come accompanied by parents and others and with all the documents will not affect the restrictions. Local experts believe that the event was the result of a scandal with tourists, who a few weeks ago 13 teenagers were sexually harassed in the area of the Giza pyramids.

We will remind, on state accusation 13 suspects, including three adults, and the rest – teenagers from 13 to 15 years were detained. They were detained on charges of sexual harassment of two tourists in the area of the Giza pyramids. The reason was a video clip that was spread on social networks. The clip, which lasts no more than 35 seconds, shows a group of young people chasing and touching women tourists in the Pyramids of Giza on the third day of Eid al-Fitr.

The Egyptian public was outraged. The prosecutor’s office demanded a police investigation into the incident and received a report on Sunday identifying thirteen criminals.

According to the investigation, the man who shot the video was a guide who accompanied the tourists who were oppressed. According to him, he documented what happened to draw attention to these incidents, and assured that this action did not try to harm the economy or tourism.

The guide also told the essence of the scandal: the travel company instructed him to accompany two girls on a tour around the pyramids. During the tour, a group of boys asked to be photographed with them, after which they began to verbally and physically solicit tourists. As a result, some of the accused pleaded guilty. And teenagers will not be allowed to approach the Great Pyramids without their parents’ permission, at least on weekends and holidays.
