Vacation options have dwindled rapidly, with many people flying back to Turkey. However, the desire to diversify the rest and see something new has not gone away. “Rambler” will tell you about the place where the local’s rest.
The village of Selimiye is a great option for those who are looking for an unusual and relaxing holiday. It is located just 40 kilometers southwest of Marmaris, 10 kilometers from the village of Orhaniye.
The bay, on the banks of which the village stands, is surrounded by high mountains and overgrown with coniferous forests. Almost all buildings, including hotels and local houses, are located on a narrow area near the sea, enclosing the southern tip of the bay in a semicircle. Resting in Selimiye, you will always move along the coast.
The Turks have perfectly adapted a small amount of land for tourists. All beaches are wooden decks extending into the sea. Each flooring belongs to a restaurant or hotel. During the day, sun loungers and umbrellas stand on the decks, and in the late afternoon, they are replaced by served tables. This is convenient because the whole village lives on schedule.
There are quite a few hotels and boarding houses in Selimiye, but they are all small, with 10-12 rooms. From each hotel to the beach you can walk a maximum of 5 minutes. The only difficulty is that most of the locals do not speak English, only Turkish, so get ready to face misunderstandings from time to time.
Mostly Turks themselves rest in Selemiye, so not all places have menus in English. But you can still manage. But there is an opportunity to enjoy Turkish music, look at the habits and manners of people, and better feel the mood of this place. For example, Turks eat sweets after every dinner. Desserts in the city are open until late at night.
The closed bay is popular with yachtsmen – boats and yachts often come here during walks and long journeys, and ships can always take shelter here from the storm. Therefore, you will swim in the clearest water next to beautiful yachts. Not without a boat ride!
For lovers of fishing in the bay, wonderful opportunities open up. Men in Selemia take saps and boats, and in half an hour they return with a catch. Therefore, restaurants serve only fresh fish. By the way, since the place “for their own” is deliciously prepared everywhere. Isn’t that the most important thing on vacation?
In the area, you can see the picturesque ruins of ancient fortresses and castles – the ancient city of Hidas once stood above the village.
