In Ukraine, summer is traditionally loved more than any other season, and they place great holiday hopes on it. However, in many other countries summer is frankly disliked – and it would be useful for travelers from Ukraine to know exactly where and why.
Gulf countries
Why you should not go in summer: the heat is up to +50 °C.
The resorts of the UAE, the deserts of Saudi Arabia, and the Persian heritage of Iran attract tourists throughout the year, but in the summer the flow is noticeably reduced. The reason is simple – the heat.
Acclimatization in such conditions will take at least a week, and in especially difficult cases it will stretch for the entire vacation. And if you’re not ready to move across the Arabian Peninsula in short hops from air conditioner to air conditioner, it’s best to plan your trip for the cooler months.
Caribbean Islands
Why you shouldn’t go in summer: humidity, typhoons, and tsunamis.
In theory, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Haiti, and other places in the Caribbean, located near the equator, promise tourists, if not a climatic paradise, then a comfortable +28 °C for sure. In practice, this stability has several serious weather “side effects” at once – unbearable humidity and periodic hurricanes, typhoons, and tsunamis. Even without threatening travelers directly, they can significantly spoil the rest: and provoke problems with accommodation and movement, food, and freshwater. It is worth playing it safe and either prefer another season or go away from the equator.
Southeast Asia
Why you shouldn’t go in the summer: the rainy season.
It is no coincidence that Bali, Thailand, and Vietnam are chosen for “wintering”: in the summer months, there is a high risk of heavy prolonged rains that can blur the good impressions of the rest. The best time to travel in Southeast Asia is from November to March: this period is considered the “dry season”. If the vacation fell precisely in the summer and it will not be possible to reschedule it, you should choose the central regions of Vietnam (for example, Da Nang or Hoi An), the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan in Thailand or the more exotic Borneo.
Regions of the Southern Hemisphere
Why you should not go in the summer: at this time it is winter there.
The climate of high latitudes and mountainous regions of the Southern Hemisphere can confuse even experienced travelers who have traveled more than one thousand kilometers. The banal fact that winter comes below the equator in summer often just flies out of our heads. Therefore, booking tickets from May to August to Patagonia or the highlands of Chile is not the best idea. Much more attractive are the “transitional” months – March or November: the price tag in the off-season drops to comfortable values, the tourist flow decreases, and a promising +20 °C can be expected from the weather.
