The Thai authorities decided to distribute one million hemp bushes to the population for cultivation for medical purposes. This was stated by Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Anuthin Chanvirakun.
It is assumed that citizens will grow such hemp in their household plots. The decision to legalize marijuana will come into force on June 9. It is expected that this will generate at least 10 billion Thai baht (about $290 million) a year for the population and the state.
The only strict condition is the cultivation of medical hemp and the production of medical marijuana with a low content of psychotropic substances (below 0.2% THC). Production and use (including smoking) of marijuana with a high content of psychotropic substances is still prohibited in the kingdom.
