A massive explosion at a factory on the outskirts of Bangkok early Monday shook the airport terminal serving the Thai capital and led to the evacuation of residents from the area.
The fire broke out early in the morning at a plant for the production of foam and plastic pallets in the southeastern part of Bangkok near Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The photos showed nearby houses with broken windows and wreckage in the streets.
A few hours later, firefighters were still working to contain the blaze, and authorities ordered the evacuation of the area for fear that thousands of liters of leaking chemicals could cause new explosions.
So far, there has been no information on what could have caused the fire in the Bang Pli area, as well as whether anyone was injured or killed.
Local media reported that the initial explosion shook the terminal building in Suvarnabhumi, causing an alarm at Bangkok’s main international airport.
Airport officials said the flights were canceled, but did not provide any details.
