A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook the northeast coast of Taiwan. This was reported by the seismological service of the island, quoted by TASS.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 16.7 kilometers under the seabed. The earthquake occurred 70 kilometers east of Ilan.
Several other earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 4.2 to 5.2 occurred in the area.
There are no reports of casualties or damage yet. No tsunami alert was issued.
The eastern part of the island of Taiwan is considered one of the most dangerous seismic zones in Asia.
