What vaccines from COVID-19 are allowed for travel to Sweden

After the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) announced that the situation with COVID-19 had significantly improved in the EU and the European Economic Area, the Swedish authorities released a list of vaccines approved in the country to facilitate travel.

According to a press release issued by the Swedish police, it was found that Sweden accepts evidence of vaccination if the injection was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or if it is part of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Accordingly, this means that all of the following vaccines are taken as valid proof of immunity in Sweden:

  • Pfizer / BioNTech (Comirnaty)
  • AstraZeneca (Vakhshevria)
  • Johnson and Johnson (Janssen)
  • Modern (Spikevax)
  • AstraZeneca-SK Bio (Vakhshevria)
  • Indian Institute AstraZeneca-Serum (Covischild)
  • Sinopharm BIBP
  • CoronaVac from Sinovac Life Sciences

Since the Covischild vaccine was included in the WHO list for emergency use in February, Sweden is also one of the countries that recognize the vaccine.

With the exception of Sweden, at least 15 European countries have also recognized the Covischild vaccine, produced by the Indian Serum Institute, as evidence of immunity to COVID-19.

Although Sweden receives a large number of vaccines, it was noted that the latter only recognizes EU COVID vaccination certificates issued by the EEA country, Switzerland, San Marino, Andorra, Monaco, the Vatican City State or any other country that included in the list of exceptions of Sweden.

Persons arriving from any other country whose vaccination certificate is not recognized must provide a negative test result within 48 hours of arrival.

In addition, vaccination certificates must be issued in one of the following languages: Swedish, English, Norwegian, Danish or French.
