Chess revolution: scientists have seen racism in chess pieces

Researchers from King’s College London and New York University want to add two moves of black pieces immediately after the first move of whites in chess, according to The Sunday Times.

Researchers suggest giving black figures two consecutive moves after the first move of white. The purpose of the change is to eliminate the advantage of players with white pieces. After a large-scale study, it was found that in 64% of cases, the winner is the player who made the first move, ie played with white pieces.

In July 2020, world chess champion Anatoly Karpov explained why there are so few African-American chess players in the world. According to him, the level of general education in African countries is insufficient to create a whole tradition in chess.

The idea of racism in chess came a month earlier from the Australian radio station ABC, which called “racist” the fact that in chess, according to the rules, the first to walk white pieces. The position of journalists was criticized by world champions Harry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov. According to the grandmasters, such a statement is a manifestation of madness.
