It is reported by the Swedish television TV4. The media, citing a source, said it was a “deliberate act of intimidation” by Russia.
According to the report, four Russian aircraft – two Su-24 attack aircraft escorted by two Su-27 fighters – took off from the airbase in Kaliningrad. The machines were equipped with nuclear weapons.
Swedish airspace was violated over Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea.
The Swedish Armed Forces declined to officially comment on whether the two attack aircraft were equipped with nuclear weapons, but confirmed that the airspace breach “must have been intentional.” The breach lasted about a minute, the report said.
Sweden, which is neutral and not a member of NATO, has raised two Gripen fighters in response. In addition to rotting violators, they filmed Russian aircraft.
