Russia suspends negotiations with Japan for the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries.
After the end of World War II in 1945, no such treaty was concluded due to a territorial dispute over the Chisima Islands.
Now Moscow is reacting to Tokyo’s tough response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Under the current conditions, the Russian Federation does not intend to continue negotiations with Japan on concluding a peace treaty due to the impossibility of discussing the main document on bilateral relations with a country that is openly hostile and seeks to harm the interests of our country,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
