Finnish Foreign Ministry recommends against selling luxury goods to Russians

The Finnish Foreign Ministry recommends that the country’s stores not sell sanctioned luxury goods to Russians. According to Yle, some outlets have already followed this recommendation. This also applies to duty-free goods from stores, the intended use of which is easier to track: before purchasing them, the buyer must show a passport.

If the seller understands that the products will be exported to the Russian Federation, he is advised to refuse the client. But, according to Mikael Ruotsi, Secretary for Legislative Affairs of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, in practice it is difficult to track whether a purchase will go to Russia or not.

EU sanctions prohibit the import into Russia of goods worth more than 300 EUR. Exceptions are electrical appliances and smartphones up to EUR 750 and cars up to EUR 50,000.
