In Turkey, there was a rapid increase in sales of houses and apartments: demand for them more than doubled in May this year compared to last year. The main reason is the active sale of real estate to foreigners, and above all – the fact that apartments and cottages frantically rushed to buy the Russians. This happened after February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine.
In particular, Russian oligarchs responded promptly to the call to “invest and relax” in Turkey, to obtain a residence permit. This was reported by the Turkish newspaper Ahval.
According to the newspaper, sales in Turkey of new and existing homes more than doubled in May compared to 2021. This was primarily due to a tenfold increase in home purchases by Russians. In numbers, sales rose to 122,768 units last month from 59,168 units in May last year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.
Also, according to his statistics, sales of houses to foreigners jumped by 236% year on year or up to 5,962 units. Of these, the Russians bought 1,275 units, which is the largest number of non-Turkish nationalities. At the same time, in May last year, Russian citizens bought only 119 houses. The publication reminds that earlier the Turkish authorities stated that Russian citizens can invest and rest in the country without fear of sanctions, particularly oligarchs.
By the way, in second place in terms of the number of purchased houses – and also with a significant increase – were the citizens of Iran. They bought 736 houses, compared to 231 a year ago.
