Poland has changed the rules for crossing borders. How it will affect travelers from Ukraine

From December 17, 2021, changes will come into force regarding border crossing for citizens arriving in the Republic of Poland from outside the European Union (including from Ukraine).

When crossing the border, travelers must provide the representatives of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland with the results of a negative diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2, in Polish or English, performed not earlier than 24 hours before crossing the border.

If you arrive in the Republic of Poland by plane – you can take the test (including at the airport) within 3 hours from the time of crossing the border. A negative test result exempts you from quarantine. Those traveling by land from Ukraine or on foot must pass a test in Ukraine.

This requirement applies to vaccinated persons.

The following are exempt from taking the test:

  • persons who take the exam in the eighth grade, the state final exam (matura) and their guardians;
  • children under 5 years;
  • categories of persons defined in paragraph 1 §3 of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland on the establishment of restrictions and prohibitions in connection with the epidemic (including drivers and crew members of air, rail, sea and freight vehicles, inland waterways, trains – in connection with the performance of professional activities);
  • children attending kindergartens in the Republic of Poland and neighboring countries accompanied by guardians;
  • students attending schools in the Republic of Poland and neighboring countries accompanied by guardians;

Persons who do not give a negative test result to the representatives of the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland will have to undergo mandatory quarantine.

The presence of a negative test result does not exempt unvaccinated persons (and persons vaccinated with vaccines not authorized in the European Union) from 14-day quarantine.

The decision to cross the border is made by the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Poland.

These restrictions will apply until January 31, 2022.
