Poland reports a record number of new coronavirus infections for the second day in a row. The prime minister is preparing to announce details of tougher restrictions for the Easter period.
The health ministry said it had registered more than 34,000 new cases – 4,000 more, setting a record of 30,000 on Wednesday. 520 new deaths had also been reported, according to the Associated Press.
In Poland, officials say the “third wave” of the pandemic is caused by a highly contagious variant of the virus, first detected in the UK, which now accounts for the majority of new cases.
