Norway is postponing the opening of borders to prevent the spread of the Delta strain

Contrary to the schedule, Norway does not open for you. Norwegian authorities have decided to extend the third phase of the opening until late July or early August, fearing a potential fourth wave due to the Delta coronavirus strain.

Referring to this, the Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg stated that there is a risk that Delta will cause a fourth wave of infection in the unvaccinated part of the population, among those who received only one dose or are in vulnerable groups.

Norway reported the lowest infection rates in Europe since the start of the pandemic early last year; however, an increase in the number of hospitalizations due to a new strain of the virus is currently being registered.

The Minister of Health added that the situation in Norway is unstable, and the level of infection has been growing in recent weeks. He added that they are worried about the potential consequences if people start traveling and meeting others during the Easter holidays.

According to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, almost 37 percent of Norway’s adult population has been fully vaccinated, while more than 65 percent of the population has received a single dose of COVID vaccine.

According to reports, anyone returning from a holiday abroad will have to undergo a 10-day quarantine at a designated hotel, which will be stricter than the current rule. This allows vacationers to leave quarantine facilities in three days if the test results are negative.

The health minister also added that Norwegians should remember to keep a distance of 2 meters from anyone who does not live in their own home and to receive no more than two guests at home.
