Poland is preparing to accept refugees from neighboring Ukraine in the event of an escalation of the military conflict with Russia, said Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski, DPA reports.
Warsaw is considering a number of scenarios. “One of them includes the training of heads of regional state administrations in connection with the possible influx of refugees from Ukraine, who in the event of a possible conflict may seek asylum in our country,” Kaminsky wrote on Twitter.
Currently, citizens of Ukraine have the right to 90 days of visa-free stay in Poland and the Schengen countries, if they enter them for tourism.
Many migrants from Ukraine work in Poland. According to the Polish Aliens Service, as of December, more than 300,000 Ukrainian citizens had the right to reside on Polish soil, most of them for a limited three-year period.
It is assumed that the number of Ukrainians working in Poland without a permit is even higher.
