Poland Updates Housing Rules for Ukrainians: Who Can Stay for Free After November 1

Безкоштовне житло в Польщі для українців: хто зможе залишитися після 1 листопада

The Polish government has introduced new regulations affecting Ukrainians under temporary protection.
According to an amendment published by the Ministry of Interior and Administration, from November 1, 2025, free accommodation in state shelters will only be available to specific vulnerable groups.

Who Remains Eligible

Free housing will continue to be provided for:

  • children receiving state aid — 15 PLN per day;

  • pensioners receiving regular payments;

  • persons with disabilities without pension benefits.

For others, free accommodation will end on October 31, 2025. After this date, Ukrainians are encouraged to find private housing or join local rent-support programs.

Temporary Protection Extended

Poland confirmed that the temporary protection status for Ukrainians is extended until March 4, 2026.
This guarantees the right to stay, work, and study legally in the country for another year.
After that, residency and work permits will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Digital Registration

Border officials will now record data from passports and collect fingerprints upon entry.
When assigning a PESEL number to children, personal presence is mandatory regardless of age.

Educational Aid and “800+” Program

The government clarified that the “800+” child benefit will remain available only to families where children continue their education in high school, university, or vocational training.
