In Brussels, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy, Gabrielius Landsbergis, said that “we do not need to wait for an attack, because Ukraine is already under attack.” He also called on the European Union to impose sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
In a recording provided by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis explains that the Ukrainian economy is currently under attack. He has to face challenges that were not created by the authorities in Kiev. – To this we must add a campaign of terror. The country is surrounded by a foreign army that is threatened by an invasion. This puts a lot of pressure on Ukraine, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.
“Slow occupation of the Belarusian territory”
Gabrielius Landsbergis also drew attention to the issue of the presence of Russian troops in Belarus. – This changes the situation not only in Ukraine and Belarus, but also in the EU and NATO countries, in particular the Baltic states and Poland. We must admit that what we are seeing is a slow occupation of Belarusian territory, he said.
The head of Lithuanian diplomacy also said that the Baltic countries are calling on the European Union to impose new sanctions against Russia before the attack on Ukraine begins. He stressed that in connection with the issue of Russian troops remaining in Belarus, new sanctions against the regime in Minsk should be discussed.
