On August 1, the “Children of the War” state information platform began work, which will help parents and law enforcement agencies collect information about children who suffered during the war, in particular, who went missing or were illegally deported to Russia.
“Children of War” is the only platform that provides up-to-date and consolidated information about children who suffered as a result of the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (killed, wounded, missing, deported) and those who were found and rescued. Quantitative indicators are updated daily by relevant state bodies.
Thanks to the platform, you can report a lost child; about a crime committed against a child; if there is a child unaccompanied by adults; if it became known about the fact of the child’s deportation; about the forced change of citizenship and documents of the child; about other violations of children’s rights during the war. Applications registered for any violation of a child’s rights and freedoms are automatically received and processed by the relevant departments.
“Since February 24, since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, 358 children have died and 693 have been injured, another 203 children have gone missing, and 5,754 have been deported. 47 children were returned with the participation of the Ministry of Reintegration, – says Oleksandr Smirnov, director of the state enterprise “Ukrainian National Center for Peace Building”, which performs the functions of the National Information Bureau. – Having created this portal, we also want to involve the public in the search for children, centralize and make it much easier to submit reports on the disappearance or discovery of a child’s whereabouts. The issue of protecting children and returning them to Ukraine is one of our tasks. State bodies take all necessary measures to record cases of deportation or forced transfer or resettlement of children, Ukraine actively interacts with international organizations and partners. The joint portal “Children of War” created by us allows you to quickly and purposefully collect the necessary data that helps to identify the child, track his whereabouts and, as a result, return him to Ukraine. In addition, such information will contribute to the formation of the evidence base and bringing the guilty to criminal and other types of international legal responsibility.”
The https://childrenofwar.gov.ua platform was created on the instructions of the President of Ukraine by the National Information Bureau together with the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the National Police, and the Authorized Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Children’s Rights and Child Rehabilitation.
