The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has warned that at least 7 different fires are burning in Chernobyl. The fires were spotted in satellite images from the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2 satellite.
“The fire was probably caused by shelling from Russia, for example, from a shell. It could also be arson,” the release said.
“According to the emergency classification signs, the criteria for a fire in the exclusion zone should not exceed 0.05-0.2 square kilometers, but the current state of the fire zone exceeds these figures dozens of times.”
Due to the fires, the radiation risk within a radius of 10 km around the Chernobyl NPP is increasing.
