The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt has decided to extend the stay of Ukrainian tourists in the hotels where they rested for free, if it is impossible to fly home. Force majeure arose in connection with the closure of air traffic in a number of countries after the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.
According to Egyptian media, the country’s authorities will provide free accommodation for tourists until they can safely return home. Representatives of the Egyptian tourism sector supported this decision. Already on February 24, the management of hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada responded to the request of the Ministry of Tourism to accommodate all tourists forced to return from airports due to flight cancellations.
The Russian-Ukrainian conflict will negatively affect the tourist flow from the two countries. Tourists from Ukraine make up a significant proportion of vacationers in Egypt and provide a large amount of foreign exchange earnings.
To help foreign tourists in Egypt, there is a 24-hour telephone hotline (19654) of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism.
