On Saturday, February 26, the Dutch airline KLM turned two of its aircraft heading to Russia in the opposite direction at once. Moreover, one of them was already on approach to Sheremetyevo Airport, and the second was supposed to arrive in St. Petersburg. The first board, having made a sharp turn, went towards Riga, but then continued moving towards Copenhagen, and the plane flying to St. Petersburg returned to Amsterdam.
According to the Dutch press, the reason for the “cancellation” of flights was the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia. It is alleged that under the new rules, the delivery of any spare parts to Russia is prohibited, including for personal use. “This means that we can no longer guarantee the safe return of flights to Russia,” the journalists quoted a KLM representative as saying.
