NATO has officially asked Denmark to send a combat battalion of about 800 soldiers to Latvia, confirmed Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen, quoted by the Danish news agency Ritsau.
On Tuesday, the Danish government proposed sending such a battalion to the Baltic States if requested. The issue of deploying the battalion is subject to a vote in the Danish parliament, but the defense ministry expects the battalion to be ready to be sent to Latvia in May, DPA reported.
Frederiksen also told reporters during a visit to Lithuania that she expects new sanctions against Russia, but declined to say what was being discussed, according to Reuters.
