Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has promised to announce his decision on NATO membership on 12 May. The head of the Finnish state announced this at a briefing on Saturday.
According to him, the corresponding decision will be made following the results of negotiations with the government, political parties and non-governmental organizations.
At the same time, the head of the Finnish state focused on the changed security situation in the region.
In particular, Niinistö drew attention to Russia’s brutal use of military power, which has become a matter of concern.
Meanwhile, the Finnish government will announce its decision on the NATO membership bid on 14 May.
According to the Swedish publication Expressen, Sweden and Finland plan to apply to join NATO on May 17-21.
