“The number of new cases has been rising for more than a month: more than 4 million cases were detected last week (July 26-August 1),” the WHO weekly bulletin said. It is emphasized that “more than 64 thousand deaths are reported.” According to the bulletin, the increase in the number of infected was 3%, and the number of deaths decreased by 8%.
The incidence of infection increased particularly sharply during the week in the Eastern Mediterranean (by 37%) and the Western Pacific (by 33%). The decrease was registered in Europe as a whole (by 9%), as well as in North and South America (by 3%).
